Crazy Couple Months

So, it's been a crazy couple of months! Clearly, I need to take some pointers from Meaghan on how to blog more faithfully...she's awesome. Anyway, here's a snapshot of the last sixty days...

Went to Tyler for 10 days,
back in Weatherford for 10 days.

Then, off to Colorado for 5 days.
See the first pics with our students here:

We are so excited to serve the Lord in AIA! Our vision trip to CSU motivated us to finish our support as quickly as possible so we can do ministry with our CSU athletes.

Let's see...where were we at...

Then Indiana for 10 days (over Easter),
back to Weatherford for 10 days,
and off to Little Rock (via Tyler to drop off the boys with Jason & Hallie) for 6 days.

In Little Rock, we attended a training conference to follow up on the one we went to back in September. Great training, awesome fellowship with AIA/Crusade friends who are also raising support, and MORE motivation to work hard to get our support done.

And finally, the best part...It's May 1, and we're officially 92% funded!!!!!

Let's pray that God finishes this out this month...we're praying for that and hoping to move to Fort Collins by the beginning of the summer. He is good, and His faithfulness has been a constant encouragement through this process. Thank you Lord!

February Newsletter

Malleable

M. is a single mom by choice.  She adopted a little boy out of the foster care system at 26 after fostering him for two years. A full-time kindergarten teacher, she felt God nudging her to “give more sacrificially” as the result of a sermon.  M. felt she needed to add our family to those she already supports monthly … before I ever called her.

I’m always amazed when people feel led to support us.  When it’s not by our persuasive words or slick ministry.  When God moves someone’s heart to sacrifice for Him on our behalf.  It’s not just the king’s heart that’s water in the hands of the Lord.  We’re all His putty, clay and water, soft and workable to use as He wishes.  Malleable.

God works and moves, and is in ultimate sovereign control.  God can do anything He wants, and He chooses to use people.  I like knowing He’s in control of my heart, gently dipping His hand in, stirring and moving me for His good and His glory.

Please Pray for:
  • Contentment and diligence as we continue raising support
  • The perfect home for our family, budget, and ministry needs
  • God to lead others to support our ministry

Moving right along!

We have been saying lately that in the last six months, we've been in Weatherford for maybe half of the time at the most. We have traveled like crazy, but that trend isn't ending anytime soon! Check out March and April...all dates tentative and subject to change of course.

March 5-15...Another trip to Tyler
March 16-31...Back "home" to Weatherford
April 1-4...Vision Trip to Fort Collins (this means we're getting close!!!)
April 5-13...Another trip to Indiana
April 14-23..."Home" again in Weatherford
April 24-27...Follow-up training conference in Little Rock, AR

What is that, 3 1/2 weeks at home in two months? I guess this is the adventure we signed up for! :)

January Prayer Letter

Since we’ve last updated you, we have been very busy! We’ve already taken two 5-day trips to Tyler this month, with another 2 weeks in the works for early February. We’re essentially splitting time between there and Weatherford. Through all this travel, and all the meetings, I’ve been continually reminded what a wonderful, flexible wife I have in Meaghan. How many moms are willing to drag their two small boys around for months on end? Yes, we have the occasional “We can’t take it anymore” moments, but through it all, we are reminded by the verse above that through this process of raising support, God is far more interested in refining our character than completing our support.

As you pray on our behalf, please remember our family. Although we’ve been very blessed, it’s still a challenge to endure such an extended period of transition. Finn just celebrated his first birthday, and is such a happy little guy. Jack has all of a sudden been showing a responsible side, taking care of Finn and helping mommy. We are so very proud of him. He asks on a DAILY basis, “Can we move to Colorado?” We are quick to reassure him of God’s faithfulness, but often wonder the same thing ourselves!

A NOTE FROM JEFF PRIOR, AIA CAMPUS DIRECTOR AT CSU: Nancy and I are so excited to have Jon and Meaghan assigned to our campus! I have directed the AIA ministry here for the last 15 years and we have seen the Lord draw many student-athletes to Himself. Please be praying for Jon and Meaghan as they faithfully raise their support so they can join our team as soon as possible. They only have 35% left to raise, so thank you to those of you who are already on their support team. Please continue to pray as they raise the remainder of their support! Also, please consider calling Jon if you have a friend, neighbor, relative, or business associate that might be interested in joining their support team. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions that you might have at Jeff.Prior@aia.com.

As we wait...

"Abram went through thirteen years of silence, but in those years all of his self-sufficiency was destroyed. He grew past the point of relying on his own common sense. Those years of silence were a time of discipline, not a period of God’s displeasure."

Did I mention I love Oswald Chambers? Above are comments from yesterday's devo. What a good reminder that as we persevere through the process of raising our support, there's something so much more important going on than "raising support" (cf. James 1:4, "Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything").

Living by Faith

Through this process of raising support, Meaghan and I have learned a lot about dependence on the Lord (i.e. living by faith). We started reading Oswald Chambers again this year. I think we read My Utmost for His Highest together once before, and I also read the series for two years straight in college. I say all this because in starting them back up again this year, I'm beginning to realize how much of an impact this devotional series has had on my thinking over the years. His continual emphasis on dependence, obedience and total surrender to Christ's will cannot help but excite any true follower of Jesus.

So, here's an excerpt from Jan. 2: "Do you believe in a miracle-working God, and will you 'go out' in complete surrender to Him until you are not surprised one iota by anything He does? Let the attitude of your life be a continual willingness to 'go out' in dependence upon God, and your life will have a sacred and inexpressible charm about it that is very satisfying to Jesus." Enough said.

So, we want to apply these words to our life. Although raising support could take many more months, we have started to do little things lately just to express to the Lord that we have faith that He can do whatever He wants. For instance, we totally organized the storage room, boxing up all the loose junk, sending clothes and random stuff to goodwill. We've just sold three large items on Craig's List, as the less we move, the better! And, we used the Craig's List money to buy a sweet tent on clearance at Target (see Meaghan's blog). We are preparing for life in Colorado, and so we want to be ready to go when God provides, even if it is tomorrow! Jack always asks when we're gonna move there, and tonight he prayed that we would move in three days. So, here's to three days!
